FAQs
Got Questions? Find Answers to Our Most Common Moving Queries Below!
How far in advance should I schedule my move with T Square Movers?
We recommend booking as early as possible, ideally at least 2 weeks in advance, especially during peak moving seasons like summer and end-month. Early booking ensures you get your preferred date/time and allows enough time for proper planning.
Should I tip my Movers?
Like cab drivers and waitresses, it is customary to tip movers, but it is completely up to you. Typical ranges are about $5-$10 per man for each hour worked. Tips are never expected but highly appreciated.
Do you offer any insurance or guarantees on damaged items?
Yes, T Square Movers offers comprehensive options that cover damages during the move. We strive to handle your items carefully, but we provide coverage for peace of mind.
Every move is different. There's usually a lot to consider. Like do you have a bunch of boxes or lots of flights of stairs? It's always best to make sure to complete a quote form and be very accurate with your inventory list.
Can T Square Movers handle special items such as pianos or artwork?
Absolutely! We have specialized equipment and trained staff to handle and transport bulky or delicate items such as pianos, safes, hot tubs, saunas and etc., with the utmost care.
What should I do to prepare my home for moving day?
Ensure that all small items are packed and labeled before our team arrives. Clear pathways and remove any obstacles for easy access to your belongings. If possible, reserve parking for the moving trucks close to your home. Have a plan to protect your pets and small children during the moving process.
Will T Square Movers disassemble and reassemble my furniture?
Yes, our team is skilled in safely disassembling and reassembling furniture. We take care of all the heavy lifting, including the proper disassembly and reassembly of beds, desks, and other large furniture items.
We have 10% labor discounts for Active/Retired Military as well as CIP residents.

Most Lincoln renters don’t realize this: a security deposit usually isn’t lost at the final inspection. It’s lost on moving day. Our crews carry couches down narrow stairwells and box springs through tight door frames all over Lincoln, so we see exactly where deposits go. A gouged hardwood floor, a dented door jamb, a dozen unpatched nail holes, and suddenly hundreds of dollars are gone.
This playbook combines what Nebraska landlord-tenant law says with what we’ve learned on the job, so you can hand over your keys and get every dollar back.
A quick note: we’re movers, not attorneys. This article is general information, not legal advice. Read your rental agreement and talk to a qualified professional about your specific situation.
Nebraska security deposit laws are part of the Uniform Residential Landlord and Tenant Act, mainly Neb. Rev. Stat. § 76-1416. These are the points that matter most.
Security deposit limits. Under Nebraska state law, a landlord can’t require a deposit larger than one month’s rent. If you have a pet, Nebraska landlords may also charge an additional pet deposit of up to one-quarter of one month’s rent. Some websites claim Nebraska has no cap. The statute says otherwise, so always check the source.
Return deadlines. When the tenancy ends, the landlord has 14 days to return the balance of the security deposit. If anything was kept, the landlord must also send a written itemization of the amount of the security deposit that was withheld. To make sure the clock works in your favor, give your landlord or property manager a forwarding address in writing and formally request your deposit.
What can be deducted. The deposit can cover unpaid rent, late fees allowed under your lease, and damage beyond normal wear and tear. Every deduction should appear on an itemized list of deductions, and the remaining balance comes back to you.
Interest. Nebraska law doesn’t require landlords to keep deposits in interest-bearing accounts, so don’t expect extra money on top of your refund.
When the rules aren’t followed. The landlord may fail to return your money or skip the itemized statement. In that case, the tenant can generally recover what’s owed plus damages of up to the lesser of one month’s rent or twice the amount wrongfully withheld. Reasonable attorney’s fees may also be recoverable. Many renters handle deposit disputes in small claims court, where filing is simple and court costs are modest. Attorneys generally can’t represent parties in Nebraska small claims court, so reasonable attorney fees mostly come into play in county court cases.
When the landlord can’t find you. If a deposit can’t be delivered, it may be sent by first-class mail to your last known address. If it still goes unclaimed, the money can end up with the Nebraska State Treasurer as unclaimed property. The fix is easy: always leave a current mailing address.
Nebraska landlord-tenant law also prohibits self-help evictions, such as changing the locks or shutting off utilities to force a tenant out. Deposit questions should be handled through proper channels, and both sides are expected to act in good faith.
Normal wear is what happens when people simply live in a rental unit. Slightly faded paint, light scuffs in hallways, carpet worn along walking paths, and a few small picture-hanging holes (depending on your lease) usually fall into this category.
Damage is what happens when something goes wrong. Examples include large holes in drywall, deep scratches in floors, broken blinds, pet stains, burns, and a door frame cracked by the corner of a dresser.
Here’s the frustrating part. Many of the most expensive “damage” items on move-out reports happen in the final 48 hours of the lease term, and the move itself causes them.
Our crews see these repeat offenders all the time:
Dragging furniture across floors. Sliding a dresser across vinyl plank or hardwood leaves scratches no cleaning crew can fix. Lift it, use furniture sliders, or lay down floor runners.
Bumping door frames and stairwell corners. Mattresses, sectional pieces, and appliances are the usual culprits. Corner guards and padding prevent dents that cost far more to repair than they look.
Ripping hardware out of walls. Yanking out TV mounts or curtain rods tears the drywall. Remove the screws carefully and patch the holes with spackle.
Leaving things behind. Old couches, mattresses, and bags of trash may be treated as abandoned property, and the removal fees come straight out of your deposit.
Cleaning before the move instead of after. Moving stirs up dust, tracks in dirt (especially during a Nebraska winter), and uncovers whatever was hiding behind your furniture. Clean last.
This is where the right crew pays for itself. At T Square Movers, our teams wrap furniture in moving blankets, protect door frames and banisters, and lay floor protection along high-traffic paths. We also take apart bed frames and desks instead of forcing them through tight spaces. The goal is simple: your belongings arrive safely, and your old rental property looks the way it did when we walked in.
If your move-out and move-in dates don’t line up, our secure storage lets you empty the unit on time. That way you’re not paying extra rent while you wait.
Re-read your rental agreement for cleaning requirements, carpet clauses, and notice deadlines.
Give written notice on time, and include your forwarding address, email address, and telephone number.
Patch small holes, replace burned-out bulbs, and clean the appliances, cabinets, and bathrooms.
Take date-stamped photos and video of every room once you’re finished.
Ask your landlord or property manager for a joint walkthrough.
Pay any final unpaid rent and utilities, return every key, and get a written receipt.
Save copies of all electronic communications with your landlord.
This checklist is provided for the user’s personal use, so print it and keep it handy.
Getting your full deposit back comes down to three things: know your rights under Nebraska law, document everything, and keep your move from damaging the rental unit. You can handle the first two. Let our crew handle the third.
